AITAH for kicking my brother and his family out after they turned my home office into a nursery without asking?

My brother (32M), his wife (29F), and their newborn moved in with me (35M) temporarily after they lost their apartment. I work from home and have a dedicated home office that's essential for my job. I let them use my guest room and even helped set up a small area for the baby there.

Last week, while I was on a business trip, they decided my home office would make a "perfect nursery." They moved all my work equipment into the garage (where it's not functional) and redecorated the office with a crib, changing table, and baby decorations—all without asking me.

When I got back, I was furious. My sister-in-law said they "needed the space more" and thought I'd "understand as family." I told them they crossed a massive line, and since they clearly couldn't respect my home or my boundaries, they needed to move out immediately.

Now my parents are calling me heartless for making them homeless with a baby, saying I should have worked out a compromise. I think I was more than generous until they took advantage. AITAH?

IllustratorBubbly224 NTA. They were way out of line. It's your house, and you should be able to use your office. Your parents are being unreasonable.

IllReplacement336 They will take your room next! Lol, you don't need it since you travel, blah blah blah. Kick them out...

EnvironmentalSir8140 NTA- but they sure are. They can move in with his parents. The audacity to move someone's equipment and put it in the garage. They have no boundaries.

Secret Sister Sarah NTA Yikes! Why doesn't your mom take them in? They are definitely the ah les here for having the audacity to actually move your things to the garage and move their baby stuff in... I can't even imagine how violated and mad I'd feel.

FairyKissesX Your boundaries were completely disrespected. It's outrageous they took that step without even asking. If your parents think it's no big deal, maybe they should open their doors instead OP.

Aggravating Ring39 Did they ever hear beggars can't be choosers? They are literally homeless beggars. The audacity. They should move in with your parents since they're so willing to give up personal space to compromise

Dixieland Insanity. What? Give up their personal space?! Nah. They'd rather badger OP for expecting his space to be respected in his own home. NTAH Edited for typos.

TealBlueLava If your parents are so concerned, they can move the little family into their home instead. If anyone fusses, tell them point blank that what they did has caused you you be unable to do the job that pays the bills and keeps a roof over their heads,

because your office equipment WiFi doesn't work in the garage and that's why it's all in the dedicated office. No home office = No paycheck Never mess with someone's source of income.

Frompal19721a Exactly! They jeopardized OP's livelihood and then acted like it was no big deal. If the parents think it's so unfair, they can offer up their own space.

outfmymind Why is it that it's the whole worlds responsibility when two people decide between themselves to have a baby. You do you friend.

Background_Fox6436 NTA, but your brother and sister in law are. They had zero right, and how are you supposed to understand when you need the office to work? Work to pay bills??? It never ceases to amaze me people's entitlement. Your parents are

clueless, take them out of the equation, if they care so much, let them solve your brother's housing issue. You tried to help, and was deeply disrespected. That is on them. I don't blame you for telling them to go. The heartlessness was on them, not you.

celticmusebooks the compromise was letting them move in. They didn't appreciate you and tried to take advantage. They specifically did it while you were gone because they KNEW what they were doing was wrong.

Pro tip for them: When mooching off employed relatives don't F with their source of the income that's keeping the roof over YOUR heads. And it would be one thing to put a baby bed in the office (still overstepping but understandable in a way) but they took your office apart and PAINTED and decorated your office.
